Sounds like you know clearly how this works.... and that's the key.
The problem comes in when new people don't understand. I had one guy who insisted that an SBR wasn't legal because it wasn't "On a Form 4" and I kept explaining, and showed him the Form 2 where we registered it... but "It's only legal for me to buy if it's on a Form 4 and that's not a Form 4" was the discussion.
Unless someone was paying him to mess with me (Unlikely) he just had this misconception from hearing "What form is it on" .... Like I said, it's not about how it got into my inventory, it's how it's going to leave that dictates what Form is used for the transfer.
Just got another collection in, with pre-86 dealer samples, and a couple of POST samples, where we had to use tax paid Form 4s to transfer to us- the dealer gave up his FFL in the early 1990s so, a transfer tax is due. How, you ask, did he have post-1986 dealer samples? Because when he gave up the FFL/SOT, no one checked- they didn't back then. So, now you have Post-86 DS that are "ON" a Form 4. :-)
