ATFE simply became tired of folks gaming the system to snag up posties as rentals, what not
That kind of started late 90s with the character that was selling all the NOS Bulgarian Krink kits in SGN. Guy was prohibited person, had the wife unit pick up a license. Bureau was Okay with that it seems but when he started importing PKM posties for a Cop buddy they took another look
Seem to recall the Chief of Police administered a community of Well less than a thousand but signed off on Demo PKMs, forget how many
Everyone ended up in Federal Prison
More recently you had the clown popped off over tearing down postie HK416s
Ordering them up for some SWAT commander then selling them as kits on Gunbroker, heck maybe even here
So yeah, the bureau is getting proactive
Besides the reasons others brought up is a licensee Seriously going to be attempting to sell so LE Agency a post sample MG34 ?
Oh Hell NO, it's a range toy and a rental at best.
Remember, posties have but two exemptions:
Research & Development
Sales to LE & Mil
I expect to eventually see them tighten up on postie builds at some point as well. Pretty tough to argue you are manufacturing a postie STEN or PPSh for R&D or for Mil/LE sales
Frank honest truth of it is those things are being created largely for rentals at ranges which factually isn't exempted
ATFE isn't the bad guys in this one
they have been letting this go on wild wild west style for years with merely a wink & a nod
